GVSU Sweeps Softball Weekly Awards

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly softball awards following Week 3 of the 2020 season. Grand Valley St. sophomore outfielder Joanna Cirrincionewas named Player of the Week, while junior teammate Hannah Beatus was selected Pitcher of the Week.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK  - Joanna Cirrincione, Grand Valley State

The Laker leadoff hitter was a brilliant table-setter, getting on base over half the time as she led the Lakers to a 10-0 week in Florida. She hit .445, including at least one hit in every game, scored 15 runs, drove in 10 herself AND stole eight bases to keep the Laker offense moving. GVSU's offense scored 77 runs in the 10 games as the preseason no. 3 team in the nation found their form in the sunshine state.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK - Hannah Beatus, Grand Valley State

Hannah Beatus went a perfect 4-0 this week, going the distance in all four games and allowing just two earned runs in 28 innings while striking out 26. She carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning against Adelphi before an infield single (lost in the sun) snubbed her chance at her second career no-no. Beatus was electric in the circle to lead the Lakers to a 10-0 overall week in Florida.
