FSU's Kortz and DU's Miller earn softball weekly honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly softball awards following the opening week of the 2022 season. Ferris State senior outfielder Paige Kortz was selected as Player of the Week, while Davenport junior southpaw Emma Miller was recognized as Pitcher of the Week.


PLAYER OF THE WEEK  - Paige Kortz, Ferris State

Ferris State University senior outfielder Paige Kortz (Brooklyn, Mich.) led the Bulldogs in the season-opening Music City Invitational with a .444 average and a .889 slugging percentage in six games in Tennessee. She totaled eight hits, five RBI?s, four runs scored and belted two homers for FSU. Kortz also tripled and had a walk with two stolen bases in an impressive weekend. She belted a two-run homer in FSU?s 2-1 win over Rockhurst on Saturday and added another homer and a triple in a close setback to Southern Indiana on Sunday.


PITCHER OF THE WEEK - Emma Miller, Davenport

Junior left-hander, Emma Miller (Mount Dora, Fla.) gave up just two earned runs in 14 innings of work (1.00 ERA) in wins over Maryville on Saturday (1-0) and Ohio Dominican on Sunday (3-2). She walked just one batter and struck out four in the 15th and 16th complete games of her career as only two of the 11 hits she surrendered went for extra bases.
