GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly softball awards following week six of the 2022 season. Northwood swept the awards, with freshman Brittany Steimel receiving player of the week recognition and junior Hailey Leister earning pitcher of the week accolades.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Brittany Steimel, Northwood
Brittney Steimel (Traverse City, Mich.) led Northwood to a pair of wins at Tiffin last week, batting .429 with three RBIs in two games. She went 2-3 with two RBIs in the Timberwolves 5-1 win in game one of the twin bill. She then drove in the only run with a run-scoring double in the ninth inning of a 1-0 win in game two.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK - Hailey Leister, Northwood
Hailey Leister (St. Louis, Mich.) tossed a nine-inning complete game shutout in Northwood's 1-0 win at Tiffin. She allowed five hits (all singles) and two walks while striking out six. It was the first nine-inning shutout at Northwood since the 2006 season. Leister's shutout finished off Northwood's eighth straight win.
