PNW's Michko and GVSU's Beatus recognized with GLIAC weekly softball awards

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly softball awards following week eight of the 2022 season. Purdue Northwest junior designated player Selena Michko was named player of the week while Grand Valley State redshirt junior Hannah Beatus earned pitcher of the week recognition for the fourth time this season.


PLAYER OF THE WEEK  - Selena Michko, Purdue Northwest

Junior Selena Michko (Dyer, Ind.) hit safely in all four games with a .533 batting average to lead Purdue Northwest in a 3-1 week. She recorded a career-high effort by going 4-for-4 with four RBIs on a home run and a double to in Game 2 against Parkside. She also collected a pair of hits and scored three runs in PNW's 12-4 road win at Ferris State. The Pride are off to their best start in program history with Michko slashing .423/.474/.761 with six home runs, six doubles and 16 RBI.


PITCHER OF THE WEEK - Hannah Beatus, Grand Valley State

Redshirt junior Hannah Beatus (North Aurora, Ill.) allowed just two unearned runs in four appearances and over 30 innings in the circle, striking out 28. Threw a no-hitter Thursday against Parkside, her third of the season, and didn't allow a base runner until two outs in the seventh on a dropped third strike. Went 3-1 on the week where her lone loss came Sunday, 1-0, in 10 innings thanks to the international tiebreaker rule when the runner scored on a wild pitch.
