GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly softball awards following week one of the 2023 season. Davenport senior Gabby Palazzolo was honored as player of the week while Purdue Northwest senior Emma Hill received pitcher of the week accolades.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Gabby Palazzolo, Davenport
Second baseman Gabby Palazzolo (Sterling Heights, Mich.) was named GLIAC Player of the Week on Monday afternoon after leading Davenport to a 3-1 start in its opening weekend in Smyrna, Tenn at the Music City Invitational. The Panthers (3-1, 0-0 GLIAC) defeated Kentucky Wesleyan (12-11), Findlay (5-3), and Tiffin (2-1), with their only loss coming to No. 14 Indianapolis (8-1). The senior had a monster performance in the win against Findlay, batting a perfect 4-for-4, recording three inside-the-park home runs, scoring four times, and adding three RBIs. Palazzolo finished the weekend batting .538 (7-for-13), recording a slugging percentage of 1.231, scoring six runs, batting in five runners, hitting three home runs, and adding one stolen base.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK - Emma Hill, Purdue Northwest
Emma Hill earned a big win on the mound to start the 2023 softball season for the Pride. She pitched a complete game only allowing two hits and one run. She finished the weekend with an amazing 0.00 ERA.
