WSU's Hodder and Buckberger named GLIAC weekly softball award winners

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly softball awards following week five of the 2023 season. Wayne State swept the awards, with senior catcher Becky Hodder receiving player of the week and freshman hurler Sasha Buckberger earning pitcher of the week.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK  - Becky Hodder, Wayne State

Senior catcher batter Becky Hodder batted .556 (10-for-18) last week helping the Warriors to a 4-2 record. She had a hit in all six games, including three multiple-hit contests. Hodder posted three multiple-RBI contests in wins over Bloomfield and Alliance, and a setback to UIndy. Her two-run home run (first collegiate round-tripper) vs. Bloomfield turned a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 lead. Her single in the bottom of the seventh vs. Saint Michael's moved the winning run to third base. With five of her 10 hits going for extra bases, Hodder slugged .944 and with three walks to two strikeouts, her on-base percentage was .619.
