WSU's Hodder and SVSU's Depew receive GLIAC weekly softball honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly softball awards following week seven of the 2023 season. Wayne State senior catcher Becky Hodder was named player of the week and Saginaw Valley State senior right-hander Emily Depew earned pitcher of the week recognition.


PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Becky Hodder, Wayne State

Wayne State University senior catcher Becky Hodder (Orangeville, Ont.) helped the Warriors to a road split at Parkside on Sunday. After going 2-for-4 with a double and a stolen base in the opener, Hodder went 4-for-4 with a double and two two-run home runs in the nightcap. She had a 1.750 slugging percentage, along with a .750 batting average (6-for-8) for the doubleheader. She leads WSU with five multiple-RBI games, while extending her hitting streak (12 games) and on-base streak (16 games). Hodder leads the club in hits (29), RBI (19), doubles (12), total bases (50), stolen bases (5) and two-out RBI (14). Her 12 doubles ranks first in the GLIAC, while her .735 slugging percentage is third.


PITCHER OF THE WEEK - Emily Depew, Saginaw Valley State

Emily Depew recorded two wins for the Cardinals this week with a 5-2 win over Ferris State on March 28 and a 6-3 victory over Purdue Northwest on Sunday, April 2. Depew pitched complete games in both games and tallied 17 strikeouts. She also made an appearance in game two against PNW to bring her total numbers to 14.1 IP, 12 hits, 17 K’s, 8.30 k/7, and a 2.44 ERA.
