GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly softball awards following week three of the 2024 season. Parkside swept the awards, with Cassie Rutledge earning player of the week honors and Hope Maes receiving pitcher of the week recognition.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Cassie Rutledge, Parkside
Cassie Rutledge has been selected as the GLIAC Softball Player of the Week. The grad student has been on a tear swinging the bat. In the previous weekend of play Rutledge went 8-14 for a .571 average while driving three runs and knocking two extra base hits. She also got it done on the basepaths, scoring four runs. On the season she leads the Rangers and the GLIAC with a .500 batting average, which ranks 34th nationally in Division II. Rutledge also leads the team in OPS (1.192), SLG% (.692), and hits (26). She has also legged out a team leading three triples, one of which was recorded over the weekend
PITCHER OF THE WEEK - Hope Maes, Parkside
Hope Maes has been selected as the GLIAC Pitcher of the Week for week three. Maes came on in relief in the top of the first inning in the Rangers second game against University of Illinois Springfield. The grad student was in complete control in the circle, tossing 6.2 innings while allowing just one unearned run on six hits. She also struck out four batters while tossing 89 total pitches in the victory. Maes’ dominance on the mound led to her first victory in the circle as a Ranger.
