SVSU's Herioux and Depew claim weekly GLIAC softball honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly softball awards following week seven of the 2024 season. Saginaw Valley State swept the awards, with senior infielder Sydney Herioux receiving player of the week recognition and senior right-hander Emily Depew collecting pitcher of the week honors. 


PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Sydney Herioux, Saginaw Valley State

Senior Sydney Herioux finished the week 8-for-11 at the plate with seven RBI, three runs and a home run. She was 6-for-7 with runners on base, 3-for-4 with two outs, 4-for-5 with an RBI opportunity, and reached base all three times she was the leadoff hitter for the Cardinals, as they began GLIAC play 3-1.


PITCHER OF THE WEEK - Emily Depew, Saginaw Valley State

Senior Emily Depew earned two wins this week to improve to 8-4 for the season. She made three appearances and pitched 14 innings while giving up just two earned runs and recording 16 strikeouts. Depew allowed just 10 hits while facing 54 batters. She held opponent leadoff hitters to 3-for-14 at the plate and also held opponents to 3-for-18 with two outs and 6-for-23 with runners in scoring position. She was one error and one hit short of a perfect game in the 9-0 win over Parkside in game one of the doubleheader on Friday.
