NMU's Helm and WSU's Katulski capture Week 10 swimming and diving honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced the 10th weekly awards of the 2018-19 swimming and diving season. Northern Michigan junior Rachel Helm was named GLIAC Women's Athlete of the Week, while Wayne State junior Ryan Katulski captured GLIAC Men's Athlete of the Week honors.


FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Rachel Helm - Northern Michigan

Junior Rachel Helm (Newcastle, England) picked up four firsts to help lead Northern Michigan to a 174-120 dual meet victory over Wisconsin-Green Bay. She led off the Wildcats' winning 200-yard medley relay, which clocked a 1:46.05. Helm also won the 100 backstroke (:55.84), 100 freestyle (:51.84) and 100 butterfly (:56.50).

 


MALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Ryan Katulski - Wayne State

Junior Ryan Katulski (Novi, Mich.) helped Wayne State win 189-79 at Saginaw Valley State on Friday. He earned first-place finishes in the 50 freestyle (20.77) and the 100 freestyle (46.41). Katulski anchored the 200 medley relay that won in 1:30.11.  He was named Swimmer of the Meet for his efforts.
