Saginaw Valley's Mattar, Wayne State's Katulski Garner GLIAC Swimming Athlete of the Week Awards

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced the fourth weekly awards of the swimming and diving season. Wayne State junior co-captain Ryan Katulski earned GLIAC Men's Athlete of the Week accolades, while Saginaw Valley senior Lydia Mattar captured GLIAC Women's Athlete of the Week honors.


MALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Ryan Katulski - Wayne State

Wayne State junior co-captain Ryan Katulski (Novi, Mich.) helped Wayne State to a 108-90 win over Tiffin in the season-opening meet on Oct. 19.  Katulski won both the 50 free (20.63) and the 100 free (46.44), as well as the 400 medley relay (3:21.75).  On Friday, Katulski claimed first in the 50 free (20.3) and swam in the fourth leg of the winning quartet in the 200 free relay (1:22.45) against Oakland University.  WSU nearly knocked off Division I Oakland, 151-147.


FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Lydia Mattar - Saginaw Valley

Saginaw Valley senior Lydia Mattar led the Cardinals to a narrow 147-141 victory over the No. 19 nationally-ranked University of Findlay Oilers to remain undefeated on the season. Mattar posted a pair of first place finishes in the 400 IM and the 200 Breast and added runner-up showings in the 100 Breast and 200 Medley Relay.
