NMU's Zach & DU's Wallis Claim GLIAC Swimming Athlete of the Week Awards

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced the fifth weekly awards of the swimming and diving season. Northern Michigan junior Ondrej Zach earned GLIAC Men's Athlete of the Week accolades, while Davenport freshman Emma Wallis captured GLIAC Women's Athlete of the Week honors.


MALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Ondrej Zach - Northern Michigan

 Junior Ondrej Zach (Rudolfov, Czech Republic) was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Swim & Dive Athlete of the Week for the second time this season. Zach won three events in Saturday's meet with the University of Stevens Point. He first took the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:41.61. He then swam the 200-yard butterfly in 1:56.09 to take first as well. The junior finished his day by posting a winning time of 4:43.38 to take the 500-yard freestyle. The men's swim team defeated the Pointers 191-104 for their fifth dual meet victory this season. 

 


FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Emma Wallis  - Davenport

For the second time this year, Emma Wallis has been named the GLIAC Women's Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week. This past Saturday at Ashland, Wallis competed in three events and placed first in each of them including the 200 breast (2:26.88), 500 free (5:14.43) and 1000 free (10:44.02).
