GLIAC names swimmers of the week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following the first week of competition of the 2022-23 swimming & diving season. Wayne State senior Luka Cvetko and junior Barbara Munoz were honored with the swimmer of the week awards. 


MEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK: Luka Cvetko, Wayne State

Wayne State University senior Luka Cvetko (Varazdin, Croatia) was named GLIAC Swimmer of the Week for the first time in his career. Cvetko was outstanding in a meet against Division 1 Oakland University on Sept. 9. He won three heats of the 50-yard free, improving his time in each race. Cvetko earned a time of 20.62 in the first heat, touched the wall in 20.58 in the second heat, and recorded a time of 20.54 in the final heat of the 50 free. Cvetko was also the anchor of the Warriors' mixed 200-yard medley relay team. That quartet finished in 1:44.20. 

WOMEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK: Barbara Munoz, Wayne State

Wayne State University junior Barbara Munoz (Yumbo, Colombia) has earned her first career GLIAC Swimmer of the Week award. She had a strong outing against Division 1 Oakland this past Friday (Sept. 9) swimming in four races.  Munoz swam in three heats of the 50-yard fly, where she finished fourth, third and second, respectively. She also helped the Warriors' mixed 200-yard medley relay team finish third with a time of 1:43.69.
