GLIAC honors men's and women's swimmers and divers of the week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards for the 2022-23 swimming & diving season. Wayne State claimed men's swimmer of the week (Trevor Jones) and women's diver of the week (Mikaela Senkus) while Northern Michigan earned women's swimmer of the week (Txell Font Cantarero) and men's diver of the week (Tobie Stiles).


MEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK: Trevor Jones, Wayne State

Trevor Jones received GLIAC Male Swimmer of the Week honors for the second time in his career (both in the last three weeks) after successful efforts against No. 13 (DIII) Calvin and DI Oakland. With the Knights in town, Jones touched the wall first in both the 100 free (46.34) and 1000 free (9:35.82). Less than 24 hours later, the Farmington product was on top of the podium in the 200 free (1:40.01), third in the 100 IM (53.21) and fifth in the 500 free (4:46.71).


WOMEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK: Txell Font Cantarero, Northern Michigan

Txell Font-Cantarero helped the Northern Michigan swim and dive team to a victory at Division I Wisconsin-Green Bay this past weekend. In the 100-yard Butterfly, Font-Cantarero took first place, finishing in a time of 57.15, the only swimmer to finish under a minute. In the 200-yard Butterfly, she again took home a top finish with a time of 2:06.92. On top of those individual wins, she also helped lead the 400-yard Medley Relay team to a victory as well. 

MEN'S DIVER OF THE WEEK: Tobie Stiles, Northern Michigan

Tobie Stiles has earned his fourth GLIAC diver of the week award this season for the Wildcats. The freshman helped Northern Michigan claim victory at Division I Wisconsin-Green Bay. In the 1-meter dive, Stiles finished in second with a score of 288.67. In the higher 3-meter dive, Stiles again had a stellar second-place finish, earning 255.75 points. 


WOMEN'S DIVER OF THE WEEK: Mikaela Senkus, Wayne State

Mikaela Senkus was named GLIAC Female Diver of the Week for the fifth time this season and sixth time in her career on Tuesday. The most recent honor comes after Senkus dove well against both No. 19 (DIII) Calvin on Friday night and DI Oakland on Saturday. Against the Knights, the Macomb native won both the 1 meter dive (283.58) and 3 meter dive (329.03). The next day against the Grizzlies, Senkus finished in second at 1 meter (262.13) and again at 3 meters (272.25).
