GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following week six of the 2022-23 swimming & diving season. Grand Valley State sophomore Matt Bosch and Northern Michigan junior Txell Font Cantanero earned the swimming awards while Grand Valley State senior Wrigley Fields and Wayne State junior Mikaela Senkus claimed the diving honors.
MEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK: Matt Bosch, Grand Valley State
Grand Valley State sophomore Matt Bosch played a key role in the Lakers’ dual-meet wins over Northern Michigan (187-101) and Saginaw Valley State (179-115) in Marquette, Michigan. Bosch won the 100 (45.15) and 200 freestyle (1:38.32), hitting the NCAA B cut in both events, while finishing second in the 50 free (21.27). Bosch also swam the anchor leg in the first-place finishing 200 free relay (1:23.92).
WOMEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK: Txell Font Cantarero, Northern Michigan
Txell Font Cantarero of Northern Michigan women's swim and dive had multiple top finishes this past weekend. She won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 56.71. In the 1,000-yard freestyle, she took second place. She was a part of the winning team in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:46.60. Coach Heidi Voigt said, "Txell had a great weekend and has been looking so strong this fall. She has been a great senior leader with our young team and really excited to see what she can do at our mid-season invite at Calvin College in December."
MEN'S DIVER OF THE WEEK: Wrigley Fields, Grand Valley State
Grand Valley State sophomore Wrigley Fields captured a pair of first-place finishes in the Lakers’ dual-meet sweep over Northern Michigan (187-101) and Saginaw Valley State (179-115). Fields hit the NCAA qualifying mark on the 1-meter board with a score of 472.65, followed by a 3-meter score of 287.95 which also hit the NCAA mark.
