Ashland's Pringle, Helenthal and Hill, and GVSU's Wiggins are Week 5 track and field top athletes

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following Week Five of the 2018-19 indoor track and field season. Ashland claimed three of the four honors as throwers Natalie Helenthal and Alex Hill were named women's and men's field athletes of the week, and sprinter Myles Pringle is the men's track athlete of the week. Grand Valley State hurdler Tiara Wiggins was awarded women's track athlete of the week.


WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Tiara Wiggins - Grand Valley State

Senior Tiara Wiggins (Zanesville, Ohio) clocked a NCAA provisional qualifying time of :08.74 to win the women's 60-meter hurdles at the GVSU Open. She ranks first in the GLIAC and 14th nationally in the event.


WOMEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Natalie Helenthal – Ashland

Senior Natalie Helenthal (Ashland, Ohio) won the women's weight throw at the Penn State Nationals with a NCAA automatic qualifying distance of 19.88 meters (65-2 ¾). Her distance ranks first in the GLIAC and second nationally.


MEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Myles Pringle – Ashland

Senior Myles Pringle (Cincinnati, Ohio) won the men's invitational 400-meter dash in a DII automatic qualifying time of :46.12 at the Penn State Nationals. He was part of the Eagles' 4x400-meter relay team that clocked a provisional time of 3:12.97. Pringle's 400 dash time leads the nation, while AU's 4x400 relay ranks third.


MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Alex Hill - Ashland

Junior Alex Hill (Mansfield, Ohio) placed third in the men's weight throw at the Penn State Nationals with a NCAA provisional qualifying distance of 20.68 meters (67-10 ¼). His performance ranks second in the NCAA and the GLIAC. Teammate Brent Fairbanks finished second the weight throw.
