Ashland Men Win NCAA Title, GVSU Women Place Third

 

2019 NCAA Outdoor Championships Complete Results

KINGSVILLE, Texas -- After claiming their first-ever NCAA Division II Indoor team national title, the Ashland men won its first-ever NCAA Division II outdoor team national title, tallying 54 points, which edged out powerhouse Angelo State. The men from Grand Valley State also finished among the top-5, scoring 35 points, placing them fourth overall. On the women’s side the Lakers posted 47.5 points, finishing third, while Ashland rounded out the top-10 scoring 25 points.

The National Championship came down to the final event of the 4x400m relay, consisting of Canning Phillips, Trevor Bassitt, Keshun Jones, and senior Myles Pringle, which clocked in a time of 3:06.12, to earn second in the event.

The Eagles, led by Myles Pringle finished his collegiate career with seven individual relay/national titles and all american honors. He won the men’s 400m dash national title in 45.61 seconds, and placed fourth in the 200 dash in the 21.25 second, and seventh in the high jump event with 2.08m.

Grand Valley State’s, Zach Panning, became the first ever Laker to win two individual national championships. Scoring 20 points for the Lakers, Panning won the 5,000m run with a time of 14:10.58. Panning also placed first in the 10,000m run clocking in a time of 30:12.30.  

On the women’s side  Lauren Huebner, representing Saginaw Valley State University became the 2019 National Champion in the heptathlon event. Huebner earned a total of 5,364 points, placing first in four of the events.

For Ashland, Red-shirt freshman Lindsay Baker earned her first D-II national title, and her third all american award in the shot-put event, following her performance. Baker’s top throw of 16.49m was her season’s best, and became Head coach’s Jud Logan’s 50th throwing National Championship at Ashland.
