GLIAC Announces Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its fifth and final weekly awards of the 2020-21 indoor track and field season. On the Women's side, Ashland senior sprinter Rachel Miller earned track athlete of the week, while Grand Valley State senior Elli Kimes, once again claimed Field athlete of the week. For the men, Davenport freshman hurdler Ethan Flores was named Track Athlete of the Week, while Ashland freshman thrower Noah Koch claimed Field athlete of the Week. 

 

WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK -  Rachel Miller, Ashland

Miller not only won the women’s 400-meter dash on Saturday at the Kent State Tune-Up, and earned a new provisional time for 2021 NCAA Division II indoor nationals (March 12-13 in Birmingham, Ala.), her time of 55.89 seconds sits as the fourth-best in the country.


WOMEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Elli Kimes, Grand Valley St. 
Elli Kimes hit another automatic mark in the pole vault on Friday, Feb. 19, at the GVSU Tune-Up with a third-place clear of 4.06m.  The Laker senior stands in a three-way tie at the top of the Division II leaderboard after posting a season-best 4.17m clear (Feb. 12).  This marks Kimes’ third consecutive GLIAC Field Athlete of the Week honor and sixth of her career. 


MEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK -  Ethan Flores, Davenport 

Ethan Flores broke the school record in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.12, which also is a national qualifying mark and currently ranks him tied for 10th in the country. Flores also ran in the 200 meters finishing with a personal best of 22.93.


MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Noah Koch, Ashland 
Koch won the men’s weight throw on Saturday at the Hillsdale Tune-Up at 20.45 meters/67-feet-1¼. That distance was an improved provisional mark, and moved him into the No. 6 spot nationally.
