AU'S Bassitt Starts Indoor Campaign With USTFCCCA National Award

Ashland -- Senior sprinter/hurdler Trevor Bassitt knows there's not much time left to continue to leave his mark on Ashland University's track and field program – and NCAA Division II in general.

So it should come as no surprise that Bassitt earned the first U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division II National Men's Athlete of the Week award of the 2020-21 season on Tuesday (Dec. 8) afternoon.

At the Tiffin University Challenge on Friday (Dec. 4), Bassitt won the men's 60-meter hurdles in 7.79 seconds, which not only is far and away the best time in the country in the early going, but also is the second-fastest men's D-II 60 hurdles time in December all-time, trailing only Minnesota State's Myles Hunter's 7.76 seconds six years ago.

Bassitt, who ended the COVID-19-shortened 2019-20 indoor season as the USTFCCCA Midwest Region Men's Track Athlete of the Year and a second-team College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-American, now joins Myles Pringle as the only Eagle track and field athletes to earn the USTFCCCA weekly award four times in an indoor career.
