SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Shannon Eggers, who has been the assistant women’s basketball coach at Lake Superior State for the past four years, was promoted to interim head coach for the 2012-13 season, LSSU Director of Athletics Kris Dunbar announced today.
"I am thrilled to become the interim head women's basketball coach,”
Eggers said. “I want to thank Kris Dunbar for trusting me to lead this program. I am very appreciative of the opportunity and have a great group of returners and incoming freshman. We will continue to build upon the long-standing tradition and success of Laker women's basketball."
Eggers is also the founder and co-chairman of the LSSU Women’s Walk, a fund-raiser that has generated more than $130,000 for Laker women’s athletics.
Prior to joining the LSSU staff, Eggers was a graduate assistant coach at Lewis University. She is a 2006 graduate of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, where she majored in radio/TV/film. She earned a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from LSSU in 2010.
Eggers, a native of Council Bluffs, Iowa, was a two-year starter at Nebraska-Omaha before transferring to Wisconsin-Oshkosh, where she was named to the All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference First Team.
“Shannon has worked hard since the moment she arrived in Sault Ste.
Marie, and is respected by our athletes and staff,” Dunbar said. “This sudden promotion will be an exciting challenge for Shannon. She has been a source of stability in the women’s basketball program, and I am pleased that she will be leading this talented group of student-athletes.”
