Tiffin University raised $3500 toward the Kay Yow Cancer Fund

Tiffin University's annual pink game against Walsh University on Feb. 16 culminated their season-long work towards benefiting the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. The Lady Dragons' efforts helped raised $3500 for the fund.

Funds raised from the game were combined with TU's total raised during their Free Throw-a Thon on Dec. 19. During that event, the Lady Dragons raised $3000 by shooting 1,100 free throws. The team connected on 908 of those for a blistering .825 percentage. GuardStephanie Kellymade the most with 96. There were 116 sponsors per made free throw and a total of 124 donations.

All monies raised from both events will be donated to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. The Tiffin University Women's Basketball team has teamed with Play4Kay, an initiative started by the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, to help raise money for the fight against breast cancer.

Before passing away due to the deadly disease on January 24, 2009, Kay Yow was the head coach of North Carolina State women's basketball team. During her tenure, she was diagnosed with breast cancer, which she fought courageously for 22 years. Through her fight she created her cancer fund, whose goal is to raise $5 million dollars for breast cancer research. So far, the Play 4Kay initiative has helped raise $1.7 million going towards reaching that goal.
