Tiffin vs. Findlay is more than just a conference match-up

On Saturday, January 12, the Tiffin University Dragons will take on the University of Findlay Oilers at the University of Findlay in a basketball double header conference match up at 1 and 3 PM. This game, however, is no ordinary game; there is a much larger purpose.

Early in the fall of 2012, student athletes of Tiffin and Findlay Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) met for their annual GLIAC SAAC fall meeting in Bay City, MI.  What grew from there was a display of sportsmanship, humanity and the type of student athletes we all would like to call our own. The representatives from Tiffin and Findlay collaborated on how they could make a substantial monetary donation to the GLIAC SAAC’s charity of choice, the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Ideas flourished from conversations, text messages and emails and the result was #addisonswish. The athletes decided they needed to take advantage of the large conference rivalry between the two schools that are only 30 minutes away from one another.

The student athletes from Tiffin and Findlay decided to become “Wish Granters” for a young girl named Addison who has been diagnosed with a disease called soft tissue sarcoma. Addison’s wish is to go to Nickelodeon Water Park so that she can swim with the dolphins, while enjoying the warm Florida sun.

Both institutions had t-shirts made that they will warm-up in the day of the games (both at Findlay and Tiffin). Tiffin will wear green and Findlay will wear orange, but the same message will be on both t-shirts: #addisonswish > the rivalry.  Our guest of honor, Addison, will be present at the game and her basketball team will be able to play at half time of the men’s games.

On February 9th, at 1 and 3 PM Findlay will travel to Tiffin, where we will celebrate Addison again.

If you would like to make a donation to #addisonswish, please call the Tiffin University SAAC Advisor Vickie Galaska at 419-448-3334 or please attend the basketball games at Findlay on Saturday, January 12 at 1 and 3 PM or at Tiffin on Saturday, February 9 at 1 and 3 PM.
