BAY CITY, Mich. - Saginaw Valley State University freshman forward Emily Wendling (Flushing, Mich./Flushing) and Malone University junior guard/forward Deborah Simmers (Anchorage, Alaska) have been chosen as the GLIAC Women's Basketball North and South Division "Players of the Week", respectively.

GLIAC North Division Player of the Week:

Emily Wendling

Saginaw Valley State University freshman Emily Wendling posted her second career double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds against No. 1 Ashland. The Cardinals fell in the matchup but held the Eagles to their smallest halftime advantage against Division II opponents this season as they trailed 41-37 at the break. Wendling went 9-for-12 from the field and ripped down three offensive rebounds in the process. She has scored 19 points or more in her last five contests. Wendling is also shooting 79.3 percent from the foul line, making on 23-of-29 shots.

GLIAC South Division Player of the Week:

Malone Univeristy junior  Deborah Simmers provided a lift off the bench for Malone last week, averaging 15.5 points, four rebounds and 3.5 assists per game to help the Pioneers tally a 1-1 record in contests at Lake Superior State and Northwood. Simmers tossed in 17 points with five boards and four assists in a 60-47 triumph at LSSU on Thursday. She then posted 14 points, three rebounds and three assists during the Pioneers’ 72-60 loss to Northwood on Saturday. On the week, Simmers shot 37% from the floor, 46% from three-point range and 67% from the foul line.
