Three GLIAC Women's Basketball Standouts Named CoSIDA Academic All-District

BAY CITY, Mich - Three Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) student-athletes were named to the 2016-17 CoSIDA Academic All-District Four Team for women's basketball at the NCAA Division II level on Thursday (Feb. 9).

Saginaw Valley senior Emily Wendling joined a pair of Ashland juniors in Laina Snyder and Andi Daugherty on the District Four team, which consists of five honorees.

Through the first 24 games of the season, Laina Snyder is averaging 18.3 points, 9.4 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 3.2 steals and 1.4 blocks per game, while shooting 50.8 percent from the field and 79.4 percent from the free-throw line. She is a six-time Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference South Division Player of the Week so far this winter. A Business Management major, Snyder sports a cumulative grade-point average of 3.90 through the 2016 fall semester.

So far in 2016-17, Andi Daugherty is going for 14.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.6 steals per contest, while hitting 55.5 percent from the floor and 73.9 percent from the foul line. She has been named GLIAC South Division Player of the Week twice and earned U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) Division II Women's Basketball Player of the Week laurels on Jan. 3. A Finance major, Daugherty's cumulative GPA through the fall of 2016 is 3.93.

Saginaw Valley junior Emily Wendling is having a sensational season to round-out her career in a Cardinal uniform. She maintains her 3.94 cumulative GPA in occupational therapy while ranking thid in the GLIAC in scoring with 17.8 ppg and fifth in rebounding with 7.7 rpg. She leads the league with an 88.5 % mark from the free throw line and also with her 30.0 points per 40 minutes. She has racked-up a league-leading 108 makes from the foul line and has the third-most field goals with 142. Wendling's free throw percentage ranks 12th in the nation, helping lead the Cardinals to a No. 2 ranking nationally at 81.7%.

To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic AllAmerica honors on more than 20,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
