No. 1 Ashland Defeats West Texas A&M in D2 Elite Eight

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The top-seed Ashland Eagles defeated No. 8 West Texas A&M 82-67 in Columbus on Tuesday (March 21) in the 2017 NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Tournament Quarterfinal round, also known as the Elite Eight.

Ashland fired 63 percent in the first quarter to lead 23-11 in front of a sold out crowd in Columbus. West Texas cut the lead to four toward the end of the second quarter thanks to Lilley Vander Zee's 10 points on 5-of-8 shooting. The Eagles responded in the final minutes and turned a couple WTAM turnovers into points to lead 41-32 at the halftime break - shooting 60 percent for the half. The Lady Buffs cut the Eagle lead to three before Ashland poured it on to lead by 11 after three quarters. In the end, the No. 1 Eagles moved to 35-0 on the year thanks to a 32-10 advantage in points off turnovers.
