2017 GLIAC Women's Basketball Tournament Central

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The 2017 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women's Basketball Tournament kicked off on Tuesday (Feb. 28) night with four contests all decided by double digits with no upsets in sight. The nation's No. 1 team, the Ashland Eagles, will host the final two rounds of the league tournament this weekend beginning on Saturday (March 4).
No. 1 Ashland 91, No. 8 Walsh 63 -- BOX SCORE
Ashland used a 48-32 rebounding edge and ten three pointers to lead by as many as 31 points on the night to eliminate Walsh. AU recorded five players in double figures, highlighted by Andi Daugherty's game-high 22 points on 10-of-13 shooting and seven rebounds. The Eagles forced eight second-period turnovers and connected on five triples in the frame to by 17 at the break. The Eagles are 14-1 all-time in the GLIAC Tournament at Kates Gymnasium.
No. 2 Saginaw Valley 62, No. 7 Northern Michigan 45 -- BOX SCORE
The stingy Saginaw Valley defense held Northern Michigan to just 29.1 percent shooting on the evening to lead throughout the majority of the contest. SVSU senior forward Emily Wendling became the program's all-time leading scorer with her second field goal of the game. She now has 1,931 career points, surpassing Beverly Sanders's tally of 1,922 points. SVSU's Anna Hall registered eight points while pulling down 13 rebounds as the Cardinals cruised to victory and a semifinal date with rival GVSU.
No. 3 Grand Valley State 68, No. 6 Northwood 55 -- BOX SORE
Despite a game-high 32 points and 13 rebounds from Northwood senior forward Jordyn Nurenberg, the Grand Valley State Lakers limited the rest of the NU lineup to score only 23 points and 35.3 percent shooting as a team. Leading by seven at the half, GVSU held Northwood to 2-of-12 shooting in the third quarter to pull away for the home victory. Piper Tucker paced the Lakers with 16 points, while Janae Langs and Taylor Lutz each pitched in 11 points.
No. 4 Michigan Tech 82, No. 5 Ohio Dominican 66 -- BOX SCORE
Trailing by three at the break, Michigan Tech outscored Ohio Dominican 26-11 in the third frame thanks to an 11-for-18 shooting performance, while allowing ODU to hit on just 4-of-14 attempts in the quarter to advance to the semifinals. Michigan Tech senior guard Morgan Anderson was firing on all cylinders to the tune of 28 points on 10-of-19 shooting along with five rebounds and four assists. MTU's Lindsay Winter connected on 8-of-13 shots on her way to tallying 27 points. The Anderson & Winter duo combined to go a perfect 13-for-13 from the charity stripe, all the free throws on the night for Michigan Tech.
