Saginaw Valley's Carriere, Ashland's Snyder Collect GLIAC Hoops Weekly Honors

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly women's basketball awards following Week 9 of the 2016-17 campaign. Saginaw Valley State senior guard Katelyn Carriere earned GLIAC Women's Basketball North Division honors, while Ashland junior forward Laina Snyder captured South Division accolades for the fourth time this season.


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Katelyn Carriere, Saginaw Valley State

Saginaw Valley senior guard Katelyn Carriere had a big weekend in helping lead the Cardinals to a pair of big victories to open GLIAC North Division play. She averaged 22.0 ppg, 5.0 steals per contest and 5.0 assists per game. She added three boards per contest as well. In Thursday's win over Northern Michigan, she had 19 points, three boards, five assists and a career-high five steals. She then matched season-highs with 25 points and eight assists, adding three rebounds and a block in Saturday's victory over Michigan Tech. She committed just a single turnover while averaging 36 minutes per game at the point guard position.


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Laina Snyder, Ashland

For the No. 1-ranked Eagles in home wins over Ohio Dominican and Hillsdale, Ashland junior forward Laina Snyder averaged 20.5 points, 11.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 3.5 steals and 2.0 blocks per game, while hitting 48.5 percent from the floor and 90.0 percent from the free-throw line. Snyder recorded her 35th career double-double against the Chargers where she posted 17 points and pulled down 16 rebounds.
