Ashland's Johnson, Michigan Tech's Brenna Heise Tabbed GLIAC Players of the Week

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following the third weekend of the 2017 women's basketball season. Michigan Tech senior Brenna Heise earned GLIAC Women's Basketball North Division honors, while Ashland University sophomore guard Jodi Johnson captured South Division accolades.


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Brenna Heise, Michigan Tech

Michigan Tech senior Brenna Heise had a great week for the Huskies, helping lead Tech to a 2-1 record while boasting the team's overall mark to 6-1. Heise averaged 22.7 points per gamed tied a single game school record for most points with 37 against Augustana. Her point total equaled a Tech school record of 37 which was set by Sam Hoyt against Northwood on February 25th, 2012. She is also the first Tech player to score 30 or more points since Kylie Moxley accomplished the feat with 34 on February 18th, 2016 against Northwood. addition to her point totals, Heise averaged six rebounds per game, dished out six total assists, and blocked five shots. She connected on 67.5% percent of her shots from the field, 50% of her triples, and 88.9% o her free throw attempts this week. On the season, Heise is averaging 13.7 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. 


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Jodi Johnson, Ashland

Ashland University sophomore guard Jodi Johnson had a big all-around week for the No. 1-ranked Eagles in three wins. Johnson averaged 19.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.7 steals per game, while hitting 52.9 percent from the field and 95.5 percent from the free-throw line, in a home win vs. Walsh and two wins over No. 8 Lubbock Christian and St. Mary's at the St. Mary's Thanksgiving Classic in San Antonio, Texas. Johnson's 16-for-16 effort at the charity stripe vs. the Lady Chaps set a new program record for makes without a miss in a game.
