Michigan Tech's Winter, Ashland's Johnson Named GLIAC Players of the Week

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following the fifth weekend of the 2017 women's basketball season and second week of league action. Michigan Tech senior guard Lindsay Winter earned GLIAC Women's Basketball North Division honors, while Ashland sophomore guard Jodi Johnson captured South Division accolades after an outstanding stat-stuffing week.


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Lindsay Winter, Michigan Tech

Michigan Tech senior guard Lindsay Winter turned in another solid week for the Huskies, averaging 14 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. She also combined to have 14 assists, including a career high of 10 in an 85-81 win in overtime at Grand Valley State. Winter just missed getting a triple double against the Lakers with 14 points, 10 assists, and nine rebounds. Winter connected on 56.3% of her total shots from the floor and 50% of her three-point attempts while going a perfect 6 for 6 from the free throw line. On the season, Winter is second on the team in scoring at 13.9 points per game while leading the Huskies with 7.0 rebounds and 5.2 assists per contest.


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Jodi Johnson, Ashland

In No. 1 Ashland's first two Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference home games of the new season, sophomore guard Jodi Johnson turned in one of the best stat-sheet-stuffing weekends in program history. In wins over Wayne State and Davenport, Johnson averaged 19.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 7.0 steals and 5.5 assists per game, while shooting 61.5 percent from the field and 83.3 percent from the free-throw line - all while averaging just 23.5 minutes per outing. Johnson had at least 18 points, six rebounds, four assists and six steals in both victories.
