NMU's Youngstrom and AU's Stimpert are women's basketball players of the week for Week 9

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has announced women's basketball player of the week honors for Week Nine of the 2018-19 season. Northern Michigan senior guard Darby Youngstrom was named GLIAC Women's Basketball North Division Player of the Week, while Ashland junior guard Renee Stimpert captured South Division honors.


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Darby Youngstrom - Northern Michigan

Darby Youngstrom averaged 13 points and eight rebounds as Northern Michigan picked up GLIAC victories over Lake Superior State University and Ferris State University. Against LSSU, the senior posted 10 points in 15 minutes of player time during a 93-36 victory. She followed it with 16 points and 12 rebounds for her first double-double since her sophomore season to guide the squad to a 53-42 victory over FSU. She also totaled three steals against the Bulldogs.


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Renee Stimpert - Ashland

Ashland guard Renee Stimpert had two strong games during the No. 7 Eagles' wins at Parkside and Purdue Northwest. Stimpert averaged 21.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game, while shooting 60.0 percent from the field and 45.5 percent from three-point range. She had 24 points and seven rebounds at Parkside, and followed that up with 18 points and seven helpers at PNW.
