NMU's Youngstrom and GVSU's Boensch earn player of the week nods for Week 14

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has announced women's basketball player of the week honors for Week 14 of the 2018-19 season. Northern Michigan senior guard Darby Youngstrom was named GLIAC Women's Basketball North Division Player of the Week, while Grand Valley State junior center Cassidy Boensch captured South Division honors for the third straight week.


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Darby Youngstrom - Northern Michigan

Senior guard Darby Youngstrom (Cook, Minn.) paced the WIldcats with an average of 20 points per game. In Thursday's 70-66 overtime win at Ferris State, she scored a career-high 25 points and tallied eight rebounds and four steals. She followed it with 15 points, three rebounds and two blocked shots during a 63-47 victory at Lake Superior State. For the week, the senior shot 61.5 percent from the field (8-of-13).


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Cassidy Boensch - Grand Valley State

Junior center Cassidy Boensch (Au Gres, Mich.) helped GVSU to a 2-0 record on the road after averaging 27.5 points, 15.5 rebounds, and 4.5 blocks. She turned in a career game during an 84-54 victory over Saginaw Valley State when she scored 38 points and pulled down 23 rebounds to go along with four blocks. She put together the best combined point and rebounding effort in program history. Boensch scored 17 points and hauled down eight rebounds during an 87-73 win at Northwood. She shot 69.6 percent from the field overall (23-of-34).
