FSU's Blair, GVSU's Boensch Named Women's Basketball  Players of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following the 14th week of the 2019-20 season. Ferris State senior forward Riley Blair earned GLIAC Women's Basketball North Division Player of the Week honors, while Grand Valley St. senior center Cassidy Boensch captured South Division Player of the Week. 


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Riley Blair - Ferris State

Ferris State senior forward Riley Blair tallied 44 points, 15 rebounds, 10 assists and three steals in back-to-back wins over Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan this past week at FSU's Jim Wink Arena, giving FSU a two-game lead atop the GLIAC North Division with three games left in the regular-season. Blair averaged 22 points, 7.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game while shooting 48.5% from the floor in the stretch. She notched 21 points with eight boards, seven assists and two steals in Thursday's 79-70 win over MTU in Big Rapids before coming back with 23 points, seven rebounds, three assists and a steal in Saturday's 68-56 Senior Day win over NMU. Her play helped FSU clinch a GLIAC Tourney berth and has put the Bulldogs in position to win only their third divisional title ever and first since 2012 heading down the home stretch.


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Cassidy Boensch - Grand Valley St.

 Grand Valley State senior center Cassidy Boensch has earned her fifth GLIAC South Division Player of the Week honor of the season and 13th of her career after leading the Lakers to a pair of wins last week. On Thursday in a 72-34 win over SVSU, the senior center scored 22 points (8-12 FG), grabbed nine rebounds, and had three blocks before dropping another 22 points on Saturday against Northwood, while adding a season-high 16 rebounds and six blocks. Boensch currently ranks amongst the top of the GLIAC in multiple statistical categories including; field goal percentage (1st), blocks per game (1st), points per game (2nd), and rebounds per game (2nd).
