MTU's Mackay, GVSU's Boensch Earn Women's Basketball Weekly Honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has announced weekly awards following the fifth week of the 2019-20 season. Michigan Tech sophomore guard Ellie Mackay was named GLIAC Women's Basketball North Division Player of the Week, while Grand Valley St. senior center Cassidy Boensch captured South Division honors.


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Ellie Mackay - Michigan Tech

Ellie Mackay had a big week for the Huskies, averaging 18.5 points per game including a 19-point performance in a 69-46 win over Northwood on Saturday. Mackay opened the week with 18 points against Saginaw Valley State. Mackay connected on 53.3 percent of her shots from the field and went 5 of 12 from behind the arc combined for the two contests. She also dished out a combined seven assists and hauled down four rebounds while collecting two steals. Mackay leads the Huskies in scoring at 13.7 points per game.   


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK:  Cassidy Boensch - Grand Valley St. 

Grand Valley State senior center Cassidy Boensch has earned her second GLIAC South Player of the Week honor in as many weeks. The Au Gres, Mich. native scored 31 points (13-14 FG) and grabbed 10 rebounds in Thursday’s 109-70 win over Parkside before following that performance with 27 points (13-19 FG) and 15 rebounds in Saturday’s 74-46 win over Purdue Northwest. Boensch currently leads the GLIAC in scoring (20.5 ppg), while ranking second in rebounding (9.4 rpg) and third in FG percentage (65.1%).
