MTU's Mackay, AU's Roshak Claim GLIAC Women's Basketball Weekly Honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has announced its player of the week awards following week four of the women's basketball season. Michigan Tech junior guard Ellie Mackay earned GLIAC Women's Basketball North Division Player of the Week, while Ashland sophomore forward Annie Roshak captured South Division Player of the Week honors.

 


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Ellie Mackay - Michigan Tech

Mackay was outstanding on both ends of the court and helped the Huskies to three wins this week. She totaled 66 points, 14 rebounds, eight assists, three steals, and one block and averaged a team high 33 minutes per game. Tuesday, Mackay shot 54-percent (6-for-11) from the field and 3 of 4 from 3-point range for 18 points. The Huskies won the game 55-46 against Northern Michigan. Friday afternoon, Mackay shot 54-percent (6-for-11) again for 17 points in a road win over Ferris State 66-51. In the Huskies most recent contest, Mackay marked a season high 31 points after shooting 10-for-21 overall with three triples on seven attempts. Mackay’s stalwart defense has been on display this season as she added three steals this week. She was also nearly perfect from the free throw line after making 13 of 14 attempts. Mackay has scored 15 or more points on five occasions this winter and leads the team with 15.2 points per game. Last year, she was named all-GLIAC second team and earned GLIAC North Division player of the week in week five of the 2019-20 season.The Huskies won their sixth straight game Saturday and continue their current road swing with games against Saginaw Valley State Friday and Saturday night.

  

SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Annie Roshak - Ashland

In wins at Kates Gymnasium over Wayne State (83-68) and Davenport (62-56 and 65-53) last week, Roshak filled the stat sheets to the tune of 18.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 2.0 blocks and 3.7 steals per game. In those games, she shot 19-for-39 (48.7 percent) from the floor, 3-for-10 (30.0 percent) from 3-point range and 14-for-16 (87.5 percent) from the free-throw line. Halfway through the regular-season, Roshak, despite missing the first two games due to injury, is second in the GLIAC in scoring (21.6 ppg.), tied for fifth in field-goal percentage (51.5), third in 3-point field-goal percentage (47.6), second in free-throw percentage (92.1), tied for second in steals (2.4 spg.), and second in blocks (1.4 bpg.). Roshak’s first GLIAC South Division Player of the Week honor came on Jan. 19.
