NMU's Kuhn, AU's Roshak Claim Final GLIAC Women's Basketball Weekly Honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has announced its player of the week awards following the regular-season finale of the women's basketball season. Northern Michigan sophomore guard Makaylee Kuhn earned GLIAC Women's Basketball North Division Player of the Week, while Ashland sophomore forward Annie Roshak was named South Division Player of the Week.

NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Makaylee Kuhn - Northern Michigan

The sophomore averaged 36.5 points last weekend in a two-game series sweep of Purdue Northwest. Kuhn had 34 points in the first game, a 73-61 win, and came just one rebound short of a double-double with 9 boards. The Hilbert, Wis. native scored a career-high 39 points in the final game of the series, a 65-55 win over the Pride. She again led the Wildcats in rebounding with seven and also contributed two blocks and two steals. NMU returns to action tomorrow as they host Davenport in the first round of the 2021 GLIAC Women’s Basketball Tournament. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.

SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Annie Roshak - Ashland

As announced by the GLIAC on Monday (March 1) afternoon, Roshak garnered the honor for her efforts in wins on Friday (Feb. 26) and Saturday (Feb. 27) at Lake Superior State, in which she combined for 59 points, 10 rebounds and five steals, and went 22-for-37 (59.5 percent) from the field, 4-for-8 (50.0 percent) from 3-point range and a perfect 11-of-11 from the free-throw line. Those 59 points in back-to-back games are the most for an Eagle women’s basketball player in back-to-back games since her head coach, Kari Pickens, scored 63 on March 15-16, 2013. Entering the 2021 GLIAC Tournament, Roshak leads the conference in scoring at 20.9 ppg. and free-throw percentage at 92.5, is fourth in field-goal percentage (51.9), third in 3-point field-goal percentage (44.4), ninth in steals at 1.7 spg., and second in blocks at 1.5 bpg. Roshak’s other two GLIAC South Division Player of the Week honors came on Jan. 19 and Feb. 1 of this year.
