GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following Week 3 of the women's basketball season. Ferris State sophomore guard Kadyn Blanchard earned GLIAC North Division Player of the Week recognition, while Saginaw Valley State junior guard Kaitlyn Zarycki was named GLIAC South Division Player of the Week.
NORTH DIVISION PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Kadyn Blanchard - Ferris State
Ferris State University sophomore guard Kadyn Blanchard (Freeland, Mich.) led the Bulldogs to a home sweep this past week as FSU picked up a pair of non-conference wins. Blanchard tallied 21 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game in wins over Ursuline and Grace Christian at Wink Arena as the Bulldogs ran their winning streak to six consecutive games. She totaled 25 points with four boards, four assists and two steals in Tuesday's 83-52 regional win over the Arrows before coming back with 17 points and two steals in only 17 minutes of action on Saturday in a decisive 94-38 win over Grace Christian. For the week, she totaled 42 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals in the two outings, shooting 46% from the floor and going a perfect 11-of-11 (100%) at the free throw line in addition to knocking down seven threes.
SOUTH DIVISION PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Kaitlyn Zarycki - Saginaw Valley State
Junior guard Kaitlyn Zarycki (Niles, Mich.) set a new career-high in scoring in back-to-back games for the Cardinals. She scored 36 points on 12-of-16 shooting, adding six rebounds in a narrow loss to No. 3 Drury. Zarycki came back the next day and set another career-high in scoring with 39 points in a win over Truman State (RV). She hit all 17 of her free-throw attempts in the two games.
