OWENSBORO, Ky. - The Grand Valley State women's golf team finished in third place at the NCAA Division II East Regional Tournament with a 54-hole score of 933 as they finished 69-over. The Lakers now advance to the NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships at the PGA National Resort and Spa in West Palm Beach, Fla. on May 15-18. This is the 12th consecutive year and the 17th time in the last 18 seasons the Lakers have advanced to the national championship tournament.
The Lakers carded a final round 322 (+34) to secure third place by two strokes over Missouri – St. Louis who finished with a three-day score of 935 (+71). Findlay won the event with a 31-over 895 performance while Indianapolis was second with a 39-over 903 as all four teams will advance to the national tournament next week.
GVSU junior Katie Chipman finished in a tie for third place in the 65-individual tournament, after she carded rounds of 71, 75, and 76 to finish with a 222 (+6). Fellow junior Maria Sol Pose earned a tie for 14th place after she carded a final round 82 to finish with a 14-over 230. Senior Mackenzie Blombergcarded a final round 79 (+7) as she finished tied for 30th with a 22-over 238 while freshman Erin Johnsonfinished in a tie for 43rd after carding a three-day score of 246 (+30). Junior Morgan Janke-Wolff finished the tournament with a 34-over 250 as she was tied for 49th at the end of day three.
Again, GVSU will complete in the 2019 NCAA Division II Women's Golf National Championship Tournament on May 15-18 when they travel to the PGA National Resort and Spa in West Palm Beach. Fla.
Northern Michigan, led by Caro Els, placed seventh, while Northwood was eighth and Wayne State ninth. Els tied for sixth with a 75-72-78--225, and teammate Karissa Guthrie (79-78-78--235) tied for 22nd. Northwood's Sydni Harding tied for third with a 75-71-76--222, and Wayne State's Josie Kurosky tied for 36th.
