GVSU's Stoll earns GLIAC Women's Golf Player of the Year honors; all-conference teams announced

GLIAC — Grand Valley State's Olivia Stoll has been honored as 2023 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women's Golf Player of the Year, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday, May 9.

Wayne State's Sabel Imesch received freshman of the year honors while Ferris State head coach Sam Stark was named conference coach of the year.

2023 GLIAC PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Olivia Stoll, Grand Valley State

Sophomore Olivia Stoll has been named the GLIAC Player of the Year, marking the 13th time a Laker has won the award. Stoll won three tournaments this year, claiming victories at the Williams Beall Fall Classic (208), Augustana Spring Fling (144), and UMSL Spring Fling (219). She shot 12 rounds of par or better this season, including three rounds in the 60s, with a low round of 66. Stoll recorded two more top three finishes and another finish in the top 10. Stoll is currently the 59th ranked women’s golfer according to Golfstat.


2023 GLIAC FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR
Sabel Imesch, Wayne State

Sabel Imesch is the second GLIAC Freshman of the Year in Wayne State history along with Avery Howard taking home that title in 2020. This season, Imesch carries the second-lowest scoring average on the team at 77.6 and is one of three Warriors to have competed in all 21 of the team's rounds. Imesch won the Lady Bulldog Fall Invitational on Sept. 24, shooting a 146 (72-74). Overall, the Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich. native achieved three finishes in the top-10, six in the top-25, two rounds under par, and a low 18 of 70 in the second round of the GLIAC Championship. Imesch tied for fifth in that event with a one-under 143 (73-70).

2023 GLIAC COACH OF THE YEAR
Sam Stark, Ferris State

Ferris State University head coach Sam Stark led the Bulldogs to the school's first GLIAC Championship since 2007 this spring as FSU won the league title in medal match play at the event held in Augusta, Mich. The Bulldogs also qualified for the NCAA Championships for the second year in a row. Overall, this season the Bulldogs have won two tournaments and placed second twice during fall and spring action. Ferris State also posted several school all-time best marks this spring under Stark's direction. FSU took second place overall in stroke play at this year's GLIAC Championships before beating Saginaw Valley State in the medal match play final for the school's fifth league title in program history.
