GVSU's DeLong and Sanchez named GLIAC Golfers of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly men's and women's golf awards of the 2023 spring season. Grand Valley State student-athletes secured both awards, as sophomore Charles DeLong was honored as men's golfer of the week while sophomore Julia Sanchez was named women's golfer of the week.


MEN'S GOLFER OF THE WEEK: Charles DeLong, Grand Valley State

For the second time this spring, and the ninth time in his career, Grand Valley State sophomore Charles DeLong was named GLIAC Men’s Golfer of the Week. This week the Lakers were down in Florida for the Argonaut Invitational and after two rounds in the tournament, DeLong took home the win with an eight under. He shot rounds of 69 and 67, carding five birdies in round one and six more in round two. This was the fifth win of the season for DeLong, and the 11th of his career, further adding to his program leading career wins.


WOMEN'S GOLFER OF THE WEEK: Julia Sanchez, Grand Valley State

Reigning GLIAC Player of the Year Julia Sanchez earned her first GLIAC Women’s Golfer of the Week for the 2022-23 season. Sanchez won two of her three matches at the UNG Bracket Challenge this week, shooting rounds of 86, 77, and 72. In the semifinal match against UNC Pembroke, Sanchez won her match by four strokes with her round of 77. The Lakers won that matchup and moved on to the finals, where they faced Lee, where she shot the round of 72, winning by 12 strokes. This is the second GLIAC Women’s Golfer of the Week that Sanchez has won.
