2017 All-GLIAC Women’s Lacrosse Teams, Postseason Awards Announced

BAY CITY, Mich. — The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced its 2017 All-GLIAC Women's Lacrosse teams at the banquet on the evening prior to the GLIAC Tournament Semifinals on Thursday evening (May 4).

ATTACKER OF THE YEAR: Chalane Morrison - Indianapolis

UIndy senior Chalane Morrison leads the Greyhounds and the GLIAC with 79 points this season, including the third-most goals in the league (55). She's converted nearly half of her shot attempts, has put more than 77 percent of her shots on goal and record a team-high four game-winning goals. 

In  conference action, the two-time GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week finished with 26 goals and 36 points, converting more than 54 percent of her shots. 
Morrison has 10 hat tricks this season, and set program records in points (11 vs. Findlay, April 30) and goals (8 at Shepherd, Mar. 10). 
Along with her offensive output, Morrison racked up 58 draw controls, 27 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers.


MIDFIELDER OF THE YEAR: Victoria Lelo - McKendree

Victoria Lelo paced the McKendree offense this year as well the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with 60 goals on the 2017 regular season campaign, a stat line which puts her among the nation's top 10 goal scorers at 3.75 goals per game. Lelo also secured the most draw controls in the GLIAC with 107 posting 6.69 draw controls per game, fourth in the nation. The Auckland, New Zealand native tallied 77 points, 17 assists, 35 groundballs, and 23 caused turnovers.

DEFENDER OF THE YEAR: Kira Dosenberry - Grand Valley State

GVSU senior Kira Dosenberry has made a major impact on the defensive side of the field for the Lakers this season. The San Diego, Calif. Native grabbed 17 draw controls on the season, with 26 ground balls to lead the team. The Laker midfielder also caused 20 turnovers on the year, leading GVSU in the category. Dosenberry finishes her GVSU career with the highest ground ball total in program history.

GOALKEEPER OF THE YEAR: Amy Porta - McKendree

Amy Porta finished the 2017 regular season campaign with the highest save percentage in the conference at 47.4%. Porta started all 16 games between the pipes for the Bearcats securing 11 wins. The Ellisville, Missouri native posted 130 saves, 34 groundballs, and caused four turnovers.

FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR: Elle Hamilton - Tiffin

Elle Hamilton had a strong first season with Tiffin University, leading the conference in draw controls while also leading the Dragons in a variety of categories. She led the team in draw controls and was second overall in ground balls, caused turnovers, and goals while also finishing third in points.

COACH OF THE YEAR: Melissa Gyllenborg - McKendree

Melissa Gyllenborg guided McKendree to their first-ever GLIAC regular season title with an 11-5 overall record and 6-1 mark in the GLIAC. Coach Gyllenborg posted a .688 win percentage this season, the highest in the program's history. Gyllenborg also mentored an offensive unit that is ninth in the nation in scoring offense at 16.25 goals per game.
