McKendree's Nelson and GVSU's Shisler are lacrosse players of the week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced the Week 2 GLIAC Lacrosse Athlete of the Week awards for the 2019 season. McKendree senior Emily Nelson was named Offensive Player of the Week, while Grand Valley State senior Carly Shisler was named Defensive Player of the Week.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Emily Nelson - McKendree

Emily Nelson (Deephaven, Minn.), a senior attacker, combined for seven total points through two games this past weekend, which included an impressive four goals during a 13-8 loss to Tiffin and a crucial two goals during a 12-11 victory over Findlay, giving the Bearcats their first win of 2019. This is the first GLIAC Player of the Week Honor for any Bearcat during the 2019 season. 

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Carly Shisler - Grand Valley State

GVSU senior midfielder Carly Shisler (Naperville, Ill.) and the No. 15 Lakers played three games in Colorado for their spring trip that included a pair of matchups with nationally-ranked teams. Shisler had 15 draw controls on the week, including six each against No. 21 Colorado-Mesa and No. 9 Regis. She also caused five turnovers while contributing six goals and three assists on the offensive end. Shisler, a reigning All-GLIAC performer, earned her first weekly league honors of the season. The Lakers were 1-2 during the trip, beating Westminster, 17-3, and falling to Colorado Mesa, 14-11, and Regis, 15-12.
