GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced the fifth GLIAC Lacrosse Athlete of the Week awards for the 2021 season, with Grand Valley State sweeping both accolades. Freshman attacker Maddy Champagne was named Offensive Player of the Week, while junior goalkeeper Payton Neil was awarded Defensive Player of the Week.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Maddy Champagne, Grand Valley State

Attacker Maddy Champagne led the Laker offense to back-to-back dominant wins over Concordia-St. Paul on Thursday (21-2) and Saturday (18-2).  Champagne netted 12 goals over the span of both games and won nine draw controls while picking up four ground balls.  This marks the second time in four weeks that Champagne has earned the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week mention.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Payton Neil, Grand Valley State

Junior Payton Neil allowed just two goals off of 14 shots faced in GVSU's sweep of Concordia-St. Paul.  The Laker goalkeeper posted 10 saves and collected four ground balls and stands atop the GLIAC leaderboard in goals against average with 4.57.  This is the second time this season and fourth time in her career that Neil has been tagged the GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week.
