2022 All-GLIAC Women's Lacrosse teams announced

GLIAC — The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced its 2022 All-GLIAC Women's Lacrosse teams following a vote by the league's head coaches.  

Regular season conference champion Grand Valley State earned the majority of the individual awards, as Sophie Conroy (Attacker of the Year), Leigha Johnson (Defender of the Year), Molly Bursinger (Midfielder of the Year) and Audrey Maloney (Goalkeeper of the Year) received honors.

The GLIAC Freshman of the Year is Concordia-St. Paul attacker Maddy Seifert while CSP's Ali Jennings was named the 2022 coach of the year.


2022 GLIAC ATTACKER OF THE YEAR
Sophie Conroy, Grand Valley State
First Team All-GLIAC attacker Sophie Conroy led the Lakers this season with 52 goals, recording 134 goals and 197 points in her career at GVSU. The offensive standout finished third in the GLIAC in goals (52) and points (69), while also tying for third in the GLIAC for free position goals this season (13). Conroy also ranked amongst the top five in shots (93) and shots on goal (77). She scored three or more goals 10 times this season, while scoring four or more goals six times. Conroy was also named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week (April 4) after netting a career high six goals in a win over Davenport.

2022 GLIAC DEFENDER OF THE YEAR
Leigha Johnson, Grand Valley State
Veteran defender Leigha Johnson was named to the All-GLIAC First Team for the second year in a row and has been a key component of the 2022 GVSU defense. The Lakers defense has limited opponents to an average of 5.6 goals per game and just 16.1 shots per game, including the Lakers’ 24-0 shutout in a win over Upper Iowa this season. Johnson has grabbed 15 ground balls and caused six turnovers, while also earning back-to-back GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors this season.  

 


2022 GLIAC MIDFIELDER OF THE YEAR
Molly Bursinger, Grand Valley State
For the second year in a row, All-American Molly Bursinger earned both First Team All-GLIAC honors and GLIAC Midfielder of the Year. The Laker junior has scored 46 goals, dished out 16 assists, caused 20 turnovers, and is leading the GLIAC with 105 draw controls this season. Bursinger is also third in the GLIAC in ground balls (42), free position goals (13), and caused turnovers (20), and ranks amongst the top five in the GLIAC in shooting percentage (57.5%). She’s scored five goals or more four times and has won five or more draw controls 11 times this season. Bursinger was also named GLIAC Player of the Week on three separate occasions this season.

2022 GLIAC GOALKEEPER OF THE YEAR
Audrey Maloney, Grand Valley State
Laker goalkeeper Audrey Maloney has earned First Team All-GLIAC honors and GLIAC Goalkeeper of the Year honors for the second season in a row. Maloney has made 77 saves this year and leads the GLIAC with a 51% save percentage and her goals against average (6.39). Maloney was also named GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week this season after making a career-high 14 saves in the win over No. 11 Tampa. 

2022 GLIAC FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR
Maddy Seifert, Concordia-St. Paul
Freshman of the Year Maddy Seifert made an immediate impact for the Golden Bears and provided a consistent presence on both sides of the field, ranking seventh in the league and second on the team with 40 goals while leading the team and ranking second in the GLIAC with 1.41 caused turnovers per game. She earned GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors to become the first non-goalie in team history to earn the award from the league office as she tied the school's single game record with six caused turnovers in a win over Rockhurst. Her 24 caused turnovers on the season is the fourth-most in program history heading into the postseason.

2022 GLIAC COACH OF THE YEAR
Ali Jennings, Concordia-St. Paul
First year head coach Ali Jennings has helped the Golden Bears to a third place finish in the GLIAC standings after being picked fourth in the preseason poll with an even 4-4 league record including wins in four of the last five games of the year. The team also started hot with a 4-2 record and sits at 8-9 overall entering the GLIAC Tournament despite facing the nation's third-ranked strength of schedule, holding leads at halftime or later against nationally-ranked Regis, Lindenwood and Davenport and holding first or second quarter leads against Seton Hill and Rollins while avenging the Davenport loss with a win later in the year with the Panthers no longer ranked.
