GVSU's Conroy and Johnson receive GLIAC weekly women's lacrosse awards

 

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced the seventh GLIAC Lacrosse Athlete of the Week awards for the 2022 season. Grand Valley State swept the awards, as grad student attacker Sophie Conroy was selected Offensive Player of the Week and senior defender Leigha Johnson earned Defensive Player of the Week recognition.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Sophie Conroy, Grand Valley State

Senior Sophie Conroy (Spring Lake, Mich.) led the Lakers with nine goals this week in wins over Davenport (19-3) and Northern Michigan (21-4). Conroy netted a career high six goals against DU, while also dishing out two assists and grabbing two ground balls. The senior attacker finished the week with 10 of her 13 shots on goal, while scoring 11 points for the Lakers. 
 

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Leigha Johnson, Grand Valley State

Senior defender Leigha Johnson (Syracuse, N.Y.) helped lead the Lakers to a 19-3 victory over the Davenport Panthers this week. Johnson’s defensive efforts not only held the Panthers to just three goals, but also shut out the second leading scorer in the GLIAC. The Laker defense held the Panthers to just 13 shots with seven shots on goal, while GVSU finished with 30 shots with 29 shots on goal.
