GVSU's Bursinger and Leinen honored with women's lacrosse weekly awards

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced the 11th GLIAC Lacrosse Player of the Week awards for the 2023 season. Grand Valley State swept the awards, with senior midfielder Molly Bursinger receiving offensive player of the week and junior defender Hope Leinen earning defensive player of the week.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Molly Bursinger, Grand Valley State

For the second time this season, midfielder Molly Bursinger has been named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week. Bursinger helped lead the Lakers to a 23-10 victory over Northern Michigan which clinched the regular season title for the Lakers. Bursinger scored five goals in the win, while dishing out one assist and controlling nine draws. On the season, she leads the GLIAC with 16 assists, is tied for the lead in draw controls (91) and points (64), while ranking second in the league with 48 goals.


DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Hope Leinen, Grand Valley State

Grand Valley junior defender Hope Leinen earned her first career GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week award, following her performance in the Lakers win over Northern Michigan. Leinen fielded two groundballs, caused one turnover, and played a key role in holding the Wildcats to their fourth lowest scoring output of the season. This year Leinen has picked up 17 groundballs and caused five turnovers.
