GVSU's Bursinger and Rothe honored with women's lacrosse weekly awards

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced the seventh GLIAC Lacrosse Player of the Week awards for the 2023 season. Grand Valley State swept the honors, with senior midfielder Molly Bursinger collecting Offensive Player of the Week and sophomore defender Ashleigh Rothe earning Defensive Player of the Week.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Molly Bursinger, Grand Valley State

Grand Valley senior midfielder Molly Bursinger earned GLIAC Player of the Week honors for the second time this season, this time earning Offensive Player of the Week. Despite only playing one game last week, Bursinger put up seven points on five goals and two assists in the 17-10 victory at Concordia-St. Paul. She also added eight draw controls, caused three turnovers, and picked up two groundballs. On the season, Bursinger has scored 21 goals, recorded nine assists, and grabbed a team-leading 49 draw controls.


DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Ashleigh Rothe, Grand Valley State

For the first time in her career, sophomore defender Ashleigh Rothe was named GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week. In the 17-10 win over Concordia-St. Paul, Rothe picked up four groundballs, won three draw controls, and caused two turnovers. Throughout the season, Rothe has won 19 draw controls, fielded 13 groundballs, and caused 11 turnovers and has been a key piece on the best defense in the GLIAC.
