City, Mich. - University of Findlay
junior Adam Walter (Chesterland, Ohio/West Geauga)
was named the 2013 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
(GLIAC) “Wrestler of the Year” in balloting conducted
by the league’s coaches. Notre Dame College freshman
Joey Davis (Compton, Calif./Santa
Fe), was named “Freshman of the Year” while
Notre Dame College’s Frank Romano was named
“Coach of the Year” by his peers.
Walter Junior Adam Walters has led the #16 Roughnecks with a 24-2
record this season. Walters, who is ranked third nationally
in the 184-pound weight class, recently took second at the NCAA
Division II Super Region 2 Tournament and will compete for Findlay
at the national championship on March 8-9 in Birmingham, Ala.
The Chesterland, Ohio native finished second in the 184-pound
weight class last year at the championsh
ip event and was honored as an All-American.
Davis went 4-0, with a fall and a tech fall, in dual matches
against GLIAC foes in the 2012-13 regular season. The first-year
Falcon from Compton, California, was the 165-pound titlist at last
week’s (Feb. 23-24) NCAA Division-II Midwest Regional
Tournament and figures to be a favorite at the NCAA Division-II
Championship Tournament.
Romano led the Wrestling Falcons to
a sweep of four GLIAC opponents (Ashland, Findlay, Lake Erie,
Tiffin) during the 2012-13 regular season. Over those four GLIAC
duals, Notre Dame outscored foes, 133-24. NDC then defeated those
four squads and seven others in last week’s (Feb. 23-24)
NCAA-Division II Super Region 2 Tournament.
