Ashland's Labry Selected GLIAC Wrestler of the Year to Headline All-GLIAC Awards

BAY CITY, Mich. - Ashland senior Michael Labry was selected 2016-17 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Wrestling Athlete of the Year after recording a 28-1 individual record as one of the best performers in Division II.

Lake Erie's Blake Glogouski claimed GLIAC Freshman of the Year accolades while Tiffin's Joey Simcoe received GLIAC Coach of the Year honors. Ashland, Findlay and Tiffin all collected six wrestlers each on the all-conference teams, while Lake Erie amassed two designees.

Ashland redshirt senior Michael Labry, a three-time All-American, will enter this year's regional tournaments in Indianapolis, Ind. as the No. 1-ranked 133-pound wrestler in the country. He is 28-1 this season with 93 takedowns and nine of his wins coming via major decision. On Dec. 18, Labry won his fourth career Midwest Classic title, becoming just the second wrestler in the history of the event to do that. This will be Labry's second GLIAC Wrestler of the Year honor, as he earned it in 2015 during his junior season. His 140 career wins are an Ashland University record, and he's only lost 12 times.

Lake Erie's Blake Glogouski went 2-0 in the GLIAC this season at 125 pounds. He defeated Ashland's Sebastian Vidika, who was named All-GLIAC Second Team, by decision and pinned Tiffin's Landon Elliott. Glogouski is currently ranked third in Super Region 2 and 12th nationally in his weight class. At the Midwest Classic in December, Glogouski defeated Tiffin's Hunter Langeloh by technical fall. Overall in six duals for the Storm, Glogouski went 3-3 in duals with one decision and two pins.

Tiffin's Joey Simcoe guided the Dragons to their first ever GLIAC Championship, as the team went unbeaten in conference duals. They defeated Lake Erie 29-18, Ashland 22-20, and Findlay 21-16 and are currently ranked 7th in NCAA Division II under his direction. He has been instrumental in developing one of the region's most competitive programs, featuring four wrestlers ranked in the Top 10 in the nation. Simcoe, in his sixth season, has helped the Dragons send nine wrestlers to NCAA Nationals under his watch. They are also currently ranked 6th in Super Region 2 by D2Wrestle.com.
