In a release from the National Soccer Coaches Association
of America (NSCAA), Grand Valley State sophomore
midfielder Marti
Corby and senior defender Juane
Odendaal were named All-Americans. Corby, who
scored the Lakers' only regulation goal in their NCAA Semifinal
match against No. 6 Saint Rose, earned a first-team plaudit, while
Odendaal, leader of a back line with the nation's seventh-lowest
goals against average (0.453), garnered a second-team
laurel.
This is the second consecutive season Corby earned NSCAA
All-American honors. Last season, the Ada, Michigan native was
voted onto the second team. She becomes just the fifth two-time
NSCAA All-American in program history. Also a two-time Daktronics
All-American, Corby ranks second on the team in goals (12), assists
(12) and points (36).
For Odendaal, a 2014 Daktronics All-American, this is her
first NSCAA All-America honor. The London, Ontario product
spearheads a defensive unit that holds opponents to a mere 3.4
shots on goal per game. Odendaal helped the GVSU defense post 15
shutouts as well.
The Lakers, eyeing a second consecutive national title, face
No. 8 Rollins on Saturday (Dec. 6) in the NCAA Championship match,
which kicks off at 3 p.m. EST in Louisville, Kentucky.
