2016 All-GLIAC Women's Soccer Awards Unveiled

BAY CITY, Mich. – The 2016 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women's Soccer awards have been announced after voting conducted by the league's coaches.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Grand Valley State senior midfielder Marti Corby
has cemented her legacy as one of the top players in Grand Valley State program history, and now joins Laker legend Katy Tafler as the only two-time GLIAC Offensive Player of the Year recipients in program history.  After posting a career high 25 goals and 17 assists last season, Corby has transitioned from a score-first player into a set-up artist, and leads all of Division II with a career best 21 assists and counting. Having set the GVSU single season record for assists last season, Corby has easily broken her own record this season on her way to seizing the program's all-time assists record, with 58 career assists. Altogether, Corby's current career totals of 54 goals and 58 assists amounts to 166 career points, putting her in third place on GVSU's career points list.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR
GVSU senior defender Clare Carlson has put forth another exemplary season as the de facto leader and elite stopper of the GVSU back line, and now repeats at GLIAC Defensive Player of the Year. Under her watch, the Lakers have yielded just 15 goals in their last 44 games, a 0.34 goals-against-average that has led to 40 wins across this season and last. This season, the Lakers have been especially tough on defense, allowing just five goals in 19 games and pitching 15 team shutouts, both top-two marks among Division II programs. Carlson's four goals are tied for the most among GLIAC defenders in 2016. GVSU held every conference opponent scoreless until their final matchup with rival Ferris State, and captured their 12th straight GLIAC Regular Season title earlier in the conference slate.

FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR
Walsh's Olivia Peters
recorded a spectacular freshman campaign as she led the team and was fourth in the GLIAC in goals (13) and points scored (31). Peters was also tied for sixth in the conference with five assists. Her 13 goals are the most in a single season for Walsh since 2005 and second-most by a freshman in program history.

GOALKEEPER OF THE YEAR
Michigan Tech junior goalkeeper Kirsen Hudak
has played a pivotal in Michigan Tech's success this season. Hudak is currently ranked in the top five in three GLIAC statistical categories. She is third in goals against average (0.57), fourth in save percentage (.889), and fifth in total saves (80). She has played every minute in goal for the Huskies and has a record of 11-3-3 with nine shutouts during the 2016 campaign.

COACH OF THE YEAR
For the first time in a dozen years, Ashland University can boast of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Coach of the Year as Eagle head coach Danny Krispinsky has earned his first GLIAC Coach of the Year award. Krispinsky guided Ashland to a second-place finish in the conference's regular-season standings, and a spot in the GLIAC Tournament for the fourth time in four seasons as head coach. The Eagles have won double-digit games in each of Krispinsky's four seasons at the helm.
